Ayesha Hakki is Editor and Publisher of Bibi
Magazine, the premier bridal and fashion print and
web magazine. Ms. Hakki and her other two partners,
Shabana Haq and Zooni,
have established Bibi magazine and
Bibimagazine.com as the largest, most notable
South Asian American fashion and bridal
publication and website in the US marketplace.
Since its inception in July 2000, Bibi
Magazine has grown to include retail distribution,
both mainstream and ethnic, in 40 states
nationwide as well as Canada, England, Japan,
Singapore and Malaysia.
After receiving her degree with honors in
Journalism and Mass Media/Photography from Rutgers
University, NJ, Ms. Hakki acquired 14 years
experience in the national and international
publishing industry, having filled the role of
Assistant Editor for Pakistani publication Men's
Club before returning to the U.S where she began
working for social magazine New Jersey Goodlife/Home
Design. She quickly moved to work in the editorial
and art departments of Ladies Home Journal, in
NYC, later becoming photo editor for LHJ Special
Interest Publications, where she spearheaded
projects featuring Barbara Walters, Jackie Kennedy
Onassis and Princess Diana. Her last positions
before launching Bibi was that of art director at
Compaq Computer Corporation, Houston.
Prior to her position at Compaq, Ms. Hakki also
served as the art director for Jupiter
Communications, NYC, and subsequently established
her own design firm called Alias Art, NYC, where
she produced work for Xerox, Barnes & Noble,
AlleyCat News magazine and Culinary Thymes
magazine.
Recently, Bibi Magazine and its founders
receive an achievement award from the Asia Houston
Network, Houston. The award was named: "Beauty,
Brains and Power: Asian Women in the Media" and
was presented to the trio by the former mayor of
Houston, the honorable Lee P. Brown. The magazine
also received a prestigious Bronze Medal from the
Art Director's Club for the redesign of the
publication, 2003. The website, Bibimagazine.com,
has been awarded the Golden Web Award for 2003. In
addition, Ms. Hakki has been awarded inclusion in
the 2003 and 2004 editions of the Who's Who
Historical Society's book of International
Entrepreneurs. Most recently, the Houston
Chronicle named Ms. Hakki as The Wedding Guru in
their Ultimate Houston Guide, September 2004.
Viewed as an expert in her field, Ms. Hakki has
spoken on a number of panels for various
organizations throughout the country including
TIE, SAJA, Multi-Cultural Marketing's National
Tableware Conference, and has been a judge at the
Miss India NY pageant. She has also been
interviewed and quoted in a number of media
including the Houston Chronicle, the Village
Voice, ABC news, radio stations and South Asian
media.
Ms. Hakki recently moved to the main offices of
Bibi Magazine to Hoboken, NJ where she also
resides. She is a member of various cultural and
business organizations that promote South Asian
culture, business and especially women's issues.
