Mummadi, Srinivas Reddy
Dr Srinivas Reddy Mummadi is one of the leading
young physician- scientists in the field of
Pulmonary/Critical care medicine. He was born in
India and went to the prestigious "Armed Forces
Medical College" for his medical education.
After graduating with top honors from the
medical school, Dr Mummadi was accepted for
statistical courses in the University of
Texas-School of Public Health in 2003 (Disease
Control track) .
During this time, he was involved in
path-breaking research concerning chronic
leukemias (CLL-Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia, a
specific type of blood cancer). His work was
presented in a leading society meeting (
American Society of Hematology , San Diego, CA)
. This particular body of work led to a more
clear understanding of the origins of various paraproteins in chronic leukemias .
Later, he was accepted into the University of
Texas Medical Branch (UTMB), Galveston, Texas
for specialization in medicine and was certified
in Internal Medicine (ABIM Certification, 2008) . While in UTMB, he reported a rare side
effect of a commonly used medication used to
treat high potassium levels (Kayexalate) .
This body of work was accepted in an
international meeting for gastroenterologists (
American College of Gastroenterology) and paved
the way for further research on this topic. Now
the particular drug (Kayexalate) is on the
watch list of many national drug agencies.
Dr Mummadi currently is one of the
Pulmonary/Critical care fellow physicians in the
highly ranked Cleveland Clinic Foundation,
Cleveland, Ohio, USA. He not only is a part of
the Institute that delivers excellent clinical
care, but is also involved in high quality
clinical care research especially in pulmonary
hypertension and asthma. Due to the paucity of
knowledge with regards to the killer condition (
pulmonary hypertension), Dr Mummadi was inspired
to take up research endeavors in this particular
field.
He was invited to present some of his current
research in the apex meeting of pulmonary
physicians worldwide (CHEST 2010, Vancouver,
BC, Canada). This particular body of research
predicted that by determining a simple variable
in 6 minute walk tests, the prognosis of
patients with pulmonary hypertension could be
determined. This has revolutionized the thinking
in this realm of pulmonary rehabilitation. Due
to his stellar reputation in the universe of
young clinician- scientists , he was invited to
moderate and judge a session of asthma research
work in the same meeting. This is an achievement
that ranks highly in the career of any
physician-scientist.
Dr Mummadi is a member of various prestigious
academic organizations (American Medical
Association, American College of Chest
Physicians, American Thoracic Society)
