Ranga Reddy, M.D.
Doctor Ranga Reddy is an
Attending Anesthesiologist and Chairman, Department of
Anesthesiology at Memorial Medical Center and a Clinical
associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at
Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, Springfield,
Illinois. He graduated from Kurnool Medical College with M.B.B.S.
and M.S. (General Surgery) degrees. After immigrating to the
U.S. in 1976, he completed his residency in the Department of
Anesthesiology at SUNY, Brooklyn, New York. He held Assistant
Professorship faculty 1979-1982. He has practiced at Memorial
Medical Center since September 1982. He is a Diplomat of the
American Board of Anesthesiology and Academy of Pain Management
and Fellow-international College of Surgeons (FICS).
Doctor Reddy is an active member
and officer in many civic and professional organizations. These
include: President, Kurnool Medical College Alumni 1984 - 88; Chairman, TANA Physicians,
1988 -
90; Member of the Board of
Trustees of the American Society of Indian Anesthesiologists
(ASIA) 1991 - 95; and active Member, Asian
Indian Political Action Committee of Central Illinois where he
supports Congressional and Senate leaders.
Doctor Reddy’s association with
AAPI began a decade ago when he became a Patron member in 1987.
He has served continuously in key roles such as: Member of the
Governing Body, 1987 - 90, Chairman, Membership Benefits
Committee 1990 - 92, Regional Director of
Northeast Central Region 1991 - 92. Member, Board of Trustees,
Charitable Foundation, Treasurer 1993 - 94, Secretary 1994 -
95,
Chairman, Membership Committee,
1995 -
96. Vice President of AAPI
1995-96, President Elect and Chair, Bylaws Committee 1996 - 97 and President of AAPI 1997 - 98. Member of AAPI Board
of Trustee 2000 - 2003. He is responsible for
starting and enrolling many local chapters into AAPI. His
leadership led to recruitment of more than 100 patron and several
hundred individual memberships into AAPI. Other contributions to
AAPI include; establishing credit status, starting a legal
services network, and creating a comprehensive membership benefit
package. During his presidency, AAPI had a very productive year
in the area of membership enhancement, improved communication,
charitable activities, political activism and liaison with other
organizations.
Doctor Reddy has an ambitious
vision for the future of AAPI. He wants to reach out to all Physicians of Indian origin,
guide second generation physician into AAPI leadership roles,
protect 1MG interests in a changing health care environment, and
be of service to the needy both in Indian- the land of our birth,
and the USA- the land of our adoption. He sees AAPI moving into
the mainstream of American political activity and organized
medicine.
As a professional, Doctor Reddy’s
contributions to India have been rich and varied. He sponsored
the project “Adopt the Primary Health Care Center of Your
Native Place” in Andhra Pradesh. He established the AAPI
Charitable Clinic in Andhra Pradesh and is closely associated
with several other charitable organizations such as “Adopt a
Student” program, "SHARE”, and “PANCHAMITRA”
Ambulance Service, Bone Marrow Registry and ATA Med.
Services.
Doctor Reddy is married to
Krishna Veni. They have two sons, Satich and Jay. Doctor Reddy’s
hobbies include reading, golf, and public service. He received
Distinguished Service Award from The American College of Physician
of Indian Origin and Excellence in political Leadership and
community Service award from American Telugu Association.
