Fred Teng is Chief Executive Officer of
NewsChina, an English language monthly magazine
focusing on China distributed in the U.S. and
Canada.
Before joining NewsChina, Mr. Teng was Senior
Vice President of Corporate Development for
Multicultural Radio Broadcasting, Inc. (MRBI),
and Vice President and General Manager of Sino
Television, Inc. under the same parent company.
Prior to joining MRBI, Mr. Teng was President of
DVS New York, LLC, a media service company
specialized in management and distribution of
promotional content for the motion pictures
industry and the music industry. From 1999, Mr.
Teng was founder and President of Noble
Communications Group, Inc., a company that
provided comprehensive streaming media
solutions.
From 1993 to 1999 Mr. Teng was Director of
Marketing Communications in charge of the Asian
Markets at AT&T, where he was responsible for
the development, planning, implementing, and
monitoring of AT&T’s overall International
Consumer Long Distance marketing campaign in the
U.S. Asian markets.
Mr. Teng spent over a decade in the financial
industry, first with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner
& Smith, and then with Oppenheimer & Co., where
he was involved with marketing of asset
management and equity research, advising
institutions and private investors, and he
spearheaded the expanding of Oppenheimer’s
financial services into Asia.
Mr. Teng is very active in the community. He
had served as the Chairman of WNET/thirteen’s
community advisory board, Vice Chairman of the
National Asian Pacific Center on Aging, and the
President of the Asian Financial Society. Mr. Teng also served as the Capital Campaign
Chairman for the Chinatown YMCA, a board member
of the China Aids Fund, the President of the
Chinese American Planning Council and the
Organization of Chinese Americans.
In 2003, Mr. Teng was appointed by the
Administrator of the U.S. Small Business
Administration to serve on the National Advisory
Board of the Small Business Development
Centers. In August 2004, Mr. Teng was appointed
by the Major and the Commissioner for Small
Business Services to serve on the New York
City’s Minority Women Business Enterprise
Advisory Board.
Currently Mr. Teng is the President of the
Chinese Community Relations Council, a board
member of the Hong Kong Association of New York,
a member of National Committee on U.S.-China
Relations, CAUSE New York, the Asian American
Journalist Association, and the International
Radio and Television Society.
Mr. Teng is a recipient of the Ellis Island
Medal of Honor, and the New York State
Governor’s award for Community Leadership.
In 1991, Mr. Teng ran as one of the first Asian
American candidates for city council in New York
City’s first district covering lower Manhattan.
Mr. Teng received his Bachelor of Business
Administration degree from Baruch College, City
University of New York. Mr. Teng attended
Columbia University’s Graduate School of Arts
and Sciences, and has also completed an
executive management program at Northwestern
University’s Kellogg School of Business.
Fred Teng was born in Shanghai, China, and
raised in Hong Kong. He immigrated with his
parents to the United States. Mr. Teng is a
four time marathon runner, he completed races in
New York City, Hartford, CT, & Philadelphia, PA.
