Prospero Alexie Uybarreta is a Captain in the
United States Air Force. He was born September 11,
1976 in Teaneck, New Jersey. He received his B.S.
in Aerospace Engineering from Boston University in
1998, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant
through the Air Force ROTC program.
He completed USAF Specialized Undergraduate
Pilot Training, Columbus AFB, MS. He then served
as E-3 AWACS Pilot and Aircraft Commander at
Tinker AFB, OK, for three and a half years. During
this time, he deployed twice to the Middle East,
flying 35 combat missions during Operation
ENDURING FREEDOM. He also flew 17 homeland
security missions after 9-11.
Captain Uybarreta also completed USAF Combat
Aircrew Tactics Training, McGuire AFB, NJ; USAF
Advanced Instrument School, Randolph AFB, TX; USAF
Squadron Officer School, Maxwell AFB, AL; USAF
Pilot Instructor School, Randolph AFB, TX; and
Indian Air Force Flying Instructors School,
Tambaram AFS, India.
His major awards and decorations include: the
Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the
Outstanding Unit Award with Valor and two oak leaf
clusters, the Combat Readiness Medal with one oak
leaf cluster, the National Defense Medal, the
Global War on Terror - Expeditionary and Service
Medals, the Air Force Expeditionary Medal with one
oak leaf cluster.
Other achievements include: Company Grade
Officer of the Quarter, Distinguished Graduate
from USAF Squadron Officer School and Indian Air
Force Flying Instructors School. He was selected
as Speaker at the 1998 Boston University College
of Engineering Graduation. As an ROTC cadet, his
submission "Let Freedom Reign" won the 1996
Freedoms Foundation at Valley Force Military Essay
Contest.
Captain Uybarreta has logged over 2200 military
flying hours. He also holds an FAA Commercial,
Instrument, Multi-/Single-engine Pilot license and
type ratings in Beechcraft, Mitsubishi, and Boeing
aircraft.
Captain Uybarreta currenty serves as the
US-Indian Air Force Exchange Instructor Pilot,
teaching advanced flying in HJT-16 Kiran jet
trainers at the Indian Air Force Academy near
Hyderabad, India. He is also pursuing graduate
studies and lives with his wife Janice.
